Come and get equipped to start conversations in your church around money, consumerism and the climate crisis.

Katherine Hogg from Green Christian and Rosie Venner from ECCR‘s Money Makes Change programme will lead this interactive online session looking at ways to facilitate conversations and inspire action in churches around money, consumerism and the climate crisis.

More and more Christians see climate action as an integral part of our faith and discipleship – part of our calling to love our neighbours and care for creation. But how often do we make the connection between our faith, our financial decisions and the need to shape a more sustainable economy? Talking about money and the wider financial system can be daunting!

Urgent action is needed at, and beyond, COP26 (the UN climate talks) to ensure a hopeful future for all of God’s creation. The goals for COP26 include the recognition that ‘every financial decision’ made by governments, companies, banks and investors in the coming months and years needs ‘to take climate into account’. As Christians, how can we respond to this?

  • Are we putting God’s creation first in the stewardship of our financial resources and our spending habits?
  • Do we dare to live differently with money and possessions – not to conform, but to be transformed (Romans 12:2) for the sake of the common good?
  • What practical actions can we take as individuals and churches – through how we spend, bank, invest and give?
  • Where can we engage with and support wider movements for change?

Come and explore some of these questions with us, and get equipped to have conversations in your church, small group or community that lead to action.

Katherine Hogg is Advocacy Officer at Green Christian and created the resource Plenty! as part of Green Christian’s Joy in Enough project. Plenty! is a small group discussion resource for churches on the economic drivers of the current ecological crises.

Rosie Venner manages ECCR’s Money Makes Change programme, encouraging Christians to connect their faith and their finances for a fairer, more sustainable world. In the run-up to COP26, this has included a Green Your Money campaign.
