Joint statement

The Church Investors Group (CIG) and the Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility (ECCR) believe that the Church has an important role in witnessing to and influencing society in the area of finance in general and investment in particular.
CIG and ECCR encourage companies to adopt and maintain the highest standards of corporate responsibility in all aspects of their business. Both organisations seek to further this objective through constructive dialogue with companies, their workforces, and the communities and groups affected by companies' activities.
CIG and ECCR are collaborative organisations driven by the requirements of their members.
- CIG seeks to empower and inform its members in applying Christian ethical principles to the management of the assets they control as churches and Christian charities.
CIG members seek to formulate and execute policies relating to investment that are based on Christian ethical principles. This includes sharing information, making joint representation to company managements and making joint public statements on matters of ethical principle relating to investment and socially responsible business practices.
- ECCR seeks through its membership of individuals, faith based organisations, NGOs and others to work for economic justice, environmental stewardship and corporate and investor responsibility.
ECCR members seek to influence the policies and practices of companies, to work with others to develop international co-operation in the corporate responsibility and responsible investment movements, and through education and awareness raising to foster corporate responsibility and responsible investment within the economic life of the Church.
CIG and ECCR wish to affirm each other in addressing these issues through our contrasting but complementary activities and differing, but overlapping, membership.
