The Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility (ECCR) is a church-based investor coalition, a registered charity, and an organisation which welcomes corporate members and individual supporters.
ECCR leads and collaborates with others in advocacy and awareness raising, working for
- economic justice,
- human rights, and
- environmental sustainability.
We foster responsible and positive-impact investment on the part of Churches and their individual members.
Since ECCR was founded in 1994, many other organisations have entered the field of ethical investment and corporate responsibility. ECCR’s distinctive role continues to be in these three areas:
- Faith: we see these economic issues as an essential part of what we are called to address as people of faith. As a primarily Christian organisation our work is formed within the spiritual and theological life of the Churches, but we welcome the opportunity to work with people of all Faiths.
- Action: we believe that the Christian response to these issues calls for direct and often prophetic engagement. We encourage and support corporate and individual church investors, and other campaigners, in working for a more just and sustainable economy.
- Participation: we engage directly with local churches and individual Christian investors, building a grass roots network to influence those who speak for the Church, and invest its money, nationally.
The global nature of the Church has also enabled ECCR to engage in advocacy with host communities in other countries affected by the activity of multi-national companies.
